National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA)

  • NECA is the voice of the $171 billion electrical construction industry that brings power, light, and communication technology to buildings and communities across the U.S.

  • NECA traces its origins to the birth of modern electricity. In 1901, a group of electrical contractors met at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, NY, where a major display of electric power had been installed. These contractors joined together to foster trade and reform abuses within their fledgling industry. Today, NECA continues their work, building on a legacy of protecting the public and making innovation possible.

  • Electrical contractors count on NECA to deliver the resources that help them make better business decisions, provide excellent customer service, and take advantage of innovative technology. Locally, the Northern Indiana Chapter of the NECA was chartered on November 30, 1944 and has proudly served its members over these past 75 years.

  • As one of 119 local chapters of the NECA, we value the role we have in advancing the industry through advocacy, education, research and standards development. The Northern Indiana Chapter of the NECA maintains that labor relations are essential works alongside three local International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Unions that spans 11 counties northwest and north central Indiana and two counties in southwest Michigan.

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW)

  • The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) represents approximately 750,000 active members and retirees who work in a wide variety of fields, including utilities, construction, telecommunications, broadcasting, manufacturing, railroads and government.

  • The IBEW provides extensive training in conjunction with the Electrical Training Alliance to develop the most skilled electrical professionals in the industry.

  • The IBEW Local 531 is based in LaPorte and provides the training and resources necessary for our 500+ members to provide industry-leading service. Our members adhere to the Code of Excellence, which is an agreement between our members and our contractors that states that we will join forces to perform to the absolute highest level of professionalism and productivity on the job.

  • We will meet or exceed your expectations regardless of the scope or size of the job. Members of the IBEW Local 531 value our community and contribute their time, energy, and expertise to projects through volunteerism and donations. Giving back to our communities is an essential component of our Union, and we value the opportunity to contribute to non-profit organizations, schools, local youth sports clubs, and the like.
